Amitabh Bachchan may not be the biggest bollywood star on Indian television anymore.
According to TV ratings tracker aMAP, the Salman Khan hosted Bigg Boss 4, fresh off the star's Hindi box office blockbuster Dabangg, drew a TRP (television rating points) of 3.6% of viewers (Cable & Satellite, North, West and East India) on Sunday, and infact outdrew the 3% viewership of Amitabh Bachchan hosted version Bigg Boss 3 in the same capacity last year. The TRP is much higher than Salman Khan's own show pre-Dabangg, Dus Ka Dum, used to register in the past.
Bachchan will get a 2nd chance to take back top slot as he himself is back on TV to host KBC 4. Many industry insiders feel however that over last 3-4 years Brand Bachchan has lost its appeal with middle India and northern viewers who heavily dictate tv ratings, and that they will not be tuning in this time around and KBC will not be able to do the kind of numbers that are being expected.
As for Bigg Boss, actress Shilpa Shetty had hosted Bigg Boss 1 and recorded an opening TRP of 1.4 in 2007.
This show in India is based on the British franchise: Big Brother. So far only Bollywood stars have been asked in as hosts.
